Why Indian students stand a good chance getting admission in foreign universities?
By the sudden number of educational fairs as well as advertisements and workshops being organized by foreign universities in India, one wonders whether there is a higher demand for Indian students abroad.
According to a recent article by `Careers360-Study Abroad’, as admissions are around the corner, foreign universities are wooing Indian students with a number of exhibitions, admission campaigns and education fairs and this is because India has become one of the major targets to attract students abroad. Since, so far, universities have virtually remained faceless, many of them are changing the game by encouraging face-to-face interaction with students and use this opportunity to introduce students to their courses and facilities.
So what are the reasons behind this magnetic attraction for Indian students? According to Lisa Thomas, Recruitment and Development Executive, Imperial College London, UK, “We have a good number of Indian students in our college. We look forward to get more in the coming years because the competency level is very high in Indian students and they have a keen interest in acquiring knowledge and building up a successful career.”
Competence which has always been a much criticism characteristic of the Indian education system has actually resulted in increased competitiveness among the student fraternity. Our system of education distinguishes performers from average and non-performers. This rating system helps universities to identify performers rather easily.
Another important aspect to competence is our education system is so rigorous that only the best come out on top. This essentially means that mediocrity has no say in the matter. Other systems of education are more all-round in their approach and it is difficult in those systems to differentiate students based on their sheer academic performance and dedication.
The Ivy League Universities in USA are trying to attract more and more Indian students. In a fresh move, the Oxford University has decided to provide admissions to the ISC and CBSE toppers to its undergraduate courses from 2013. The University will make conditional offers to the students who score more than 90 per cent in the board exams. These students needn’t appear for SATS, International Baccalaureate or A-Level exams to get qualified for the admission. Another factor which works for Indian students is the fact that they are recognized for their focus and drive. Students are highly ambitious and they strive to reach their goals making them highly suitable for universities’ abroad to study which want to also distinguish themselves from other universities. -Read more
